The second wave is taking a toll on everyone, the pandemic is deadlier than ever. India being the country with the highest record of cases every single day, the fear has spread like wildfire among people.

Having a population of over 138 crores, the resources have been limited. The Internet is playing a vital role, since with limited doctors and resources available everyone is turning to the face of the internet for help.

On that note, we have all heard the name of Remdesivir, which is a COVID-19 drug available in the market. Because of huge demand for the Remdesivir injection has led to black-marketing prompting the police to arrest those who are selling it at high price illegally. The actual price of this injection is Rs. 5,400 while it is being sold between Rs. 35,000 to one lakh to the needy.

According to experts, Remdesivir is not an effective drug to eradicate corona. According to reports, Remdesivir was developed to treat hepatitis C, MARS, SARC and Ebola but it could not be proved it is efficient in treating those viruses.

The drug has halted for a long time and wasn’t used in any treatment until the corona virus outbreak. As this treated the viruses similar to Covid-19 and there was no remedy to cure the Novel Corona Virus, this drug was the only ray of hope. Many trials of Remdesivir were conducted in America and China, but it proved not an effective option. The Food and Drug Association (FDA) has approved it and allowed the use of Remdesivir under conditional emergency use of authenticity.

Dr Sanjeev Kumar, a pulmonologist, has revealed that “The Remdesivir is not at all lifesaver it could not treat the patient even with mild symptoms.” He said that after failing in the purpose for which the drug was made, how can the drug cure such a strong virus. The doctor said that after the outbreak of coronavirus, they performed several experiments on it and it found to be no effect, yet the FDA conditionally approved its sale, recommending that it be used only in the Emergency Use Authenticity”.

Speaking about the best alternative of Remdesivir, few have heard of “Dexamethasone“ which is said to be a potent medicine that has firm evidence of providing benefits in managing the COVID-19. This is one of the medicines that WHO is backing up.

What is Dexamethasone?

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid used in a wide range of conditions for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant effects. This medicine is available at a cheaper cost in the market.

Every medicine has its own benefits and disadvantages as well. The evidence states that with the treatment of this medicine the morality of the patient will reduce by 28 days, provided they have respiratory support.

They requested this to be taken if the patient is critically ill. The benefits in the United Kingdom clinical trial RECOVERY has stated that it would serve a person who is critically ill on a high note.

As per researchers, this injection is safe, they prefer it to be taken when the patient is ill and generally after 1 week of being infected by the COVID-19. For a patient who can manage with no oxygen support, this medicine does not provide much benefit, nor does it have any harm on the same level.

Advised to be taken when someone is EXTREMELY ILL. As every medicine has side effects, so does this one, When the treatment starts, typical side effects include high blood sugar level, acidity, gastric ulcer, exacerbation, or any existing infection. Please consult a doctor before deciding.
